General Counsel & Legal Architect for High-Growth Companies
Amy Natasha Osteen is a seasoned General Counsel, patent attorney, and the CEO and Co-Founder of Unified Law. With over 20 years of experience in litigation, intellectual property, M&A, corporate governance, and securities, Amy has led Unified Law from a startup to a powerhouse of 35+ professionals supporting growth-focused U.S. businesses, non-profits, and private equity firms.
She launched Unified Law to rethink the traditional law firm model—building a team of in-house-minded attorneys and professionals who offer outsourced In-House Counsel services with a strategic, plain-language, and scalable approach. Whether she’s advising on growth strategy, guiding a client through sensitive litigation, or guiding the Unified Law team, Amy brings precision, judgment, and a clear understanding of how legal decisions drive business outcomes.
Core Areas of Focus
Independent Board Member & CEO Advisor
Amy brings years of board leadership experience and serves as a trusted advisor to Boards, Founders, and CEOs navigating growth, operational scale, and complex risk. She excels at growth governance, policy creation, and strategic planning—and is often the first call for executives facing pivotal decisions.
M&A Diligence & Deal Strategy
Amy has supported billions in M&A and investment deals—both in-house and for clients. She helps identify risk, protect value, speed deals up, and ensure post-close success, integrating employment, IP, regulatory, and commercial diligence into actionable guidance.
Capital Raise Readiness
Amy prepares companies for investment with a laser focus on what investors will scrutinize—ownership structure, IP rights, employment compliance, and contractual obligations. Her strategic insight helps clients raise capital with confidence, speed, and clarity.
Pre-Suit Investigations & Litigation Support
With experience as both a litigator and an expert witness, Amy oversees Unified Law’s internal investigation, pre-litigation, and legal support work. She’s handled complex matters involving fraud, employment claims, securities issues, and fiduciary breaches—always with discretion, urgency, and a business-aware lens. She gladly works with outside counsel to support General Counsel who don’t have an internal litigation team but recognize the value of an in-house litigator.
SaaS Transactions & Intellectual Property Strategy
Amy advises technology and SaaS companies on IP protection, open-source licensing, and SaaS contracting. She’s a go-to for negotiating high-stakes enterprise software deals with global brands and closing revenue-generating deals while managing IP risk.
Career Highlights
Rug Doctor (now a BISSELL company) – Chief Legal Officer - For over six years, Amy led all things legal, HR, M&A, data privacy, litigation, and real estate across Rug Doctor’s international operations. Amy’s work at Rug Doctor bridged legal, operational, and executive priorities—an experience she now applies to support clients with manufacturing, supply chain, workforce, and compliance challenges.
Zimbra (VMware spinout) – General Counsel - Amy led all things legal relating to the post-M&A integration at Zimbra after its spinout from VMware. She oversaw corporate governance and directed the legal aspects of global SaaS licensing, partner management, and corporate governance for Zimbra’s open-source email and collaboration platform, which served over 100 million users.
ORIX USA Corporation – Associate General Counsel - Amy had the unique opportunity to work under Elizabeth Daane—then ORIX’s General Counsel and now her colleague and Co-Founder at Unified Law. At ORIX, a multinational financial institution with over $25 billion AUM, Amy was Elizabeth’s “Swiss Army Knife.” She worked across ORIX’s litigation, M&A, Real Estate, and Investment Banking divisions. She advised on the acquisitions of Houlihan Lokey, RED Capital Group, and Mariner Investment Group and first chaired the divestiture of ORIX’s master servicing platform to KeyBank.
Roberts & Smaby PC – Patent Attorney - Prosecuted patents and led complex IP litigation, developing a strong foundation in technical legal strategy and commercial disputes.
A prominent General Counsel once referred to Amy as “the unknown stuntman”—a title she proudly embraces. She and her team take on the complex, often unglamorous legal work that enables everyone else to shine: quietly driving deals forward, resolving high-stakes issues, and protecting companies from behind the scenes.
And while she doesn’t lead with it, like her co-founder Elizabeth Daane, Amy could open the trophy closet if needed. These days, though, she prefers a quieter kind of impact—making others look fearless while she handles the fire.
